Job description
Set up and configure new database instances (on-prem, cloud, hybrid).
Automate provisioning using Infrastructure as Code - Azure CI/CD
Performance Monitoring and Tuning
Monitor database performance and resource usage.
Analyze slow queries, optimize indexing, and tune configurations.
Backup and Recovery
Establish automated, reliable backup strategies.
Perform routine recovery drills and ensure point-in-time recovery capability.
High Availability and Disaster Recovery
Implement HA solutions (e.g., replication, clustering, failover).
Maintain DR environments and test failover scenarios regularly.
Security and Compliance
Manage database access control (RBAC, least privilege).
Encrypt data in transit and at rest.
Ensure compliance with data regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
Automation and CI/CD Integration
Automate schema changes, migrations, and seeding as part of CI/CD pipelines.
Use tools for version control of DB changes.Monitoring and Alerting
Set up database observability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or New Relic.
Configure alerts for anomalies, slow queries, and storage thresholds.
Data Lifecycle Management
Archive old data, purge based on retention policies.
Support partitioning and sharding strategies for large datasets.
Collaboration with Developers and DevOps
Work closely with application teams to review schema designs.
Support dev/test environments with realistic data (with masking/anonymization if needed).
Incident Response and Root Cause Analysis
Respond to outages or slowdowns quickly.
Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes.
Experience
Candidate should have minimum 8 years of experience with SQL Server, or other relational databases
Hands-on experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for proactive monitoring and performance insights.
Experience with DataDog Monitoring/Observability a plus
Experience with database performance tuning and monitoring tools
Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
Familiarity with database deployment and CI/CD practices
Good understanding of data security, integrity, and compliance practices
Experience with Azure Cosmos DB or other NoSQL databases is a plus
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
