Job description
We are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Java and/or Python and proven automation experience on Google Smart Home / Home Devices.
The ideal candidate will design, build, and scale end-to-end automation frameworks to validate connected home devices, integrations, and cloud-to-device workflows, ensuring high quality, reliability, and scalability across releases.
This role requires deep technical expertise, Google ecosystem familiarity, and the ability to work closely with Google engineering, QA, and product teams.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Framework & Test Development
Design and develop robust automation frameworks using Java and/or Python for Smart Home and connected devices.
Build end-to-end automated test suites covering device onboarding, provisioning, connectivity, interoperability, and failure scenarios.
Automate validation for cloud ↔ device ↔ mobile/app interactions.
Smart Home & Device Automation
Automate testing for Smart Home devices (lights, thermostats, cameras, speakers, displays, sensors, etc.).
Validate device behaviors, state synchronization, command execution, and telemetry.
Work with device simulators, emulators, and real physical devices.
Google Ecosystem & Integrations (Mandatory)
Hands-on experience working with Google Smart Home ecosystem, including:
Device traits, intents, and state models
Cloud-to-Cloud and Local Home SDK flows
Google Assistant / Home App integrations
Collaborate directly with Google engineering and QA teams on test strategies and defect triage.
Quality & Defect Management
Perform deep root-cause analysis of failures across device, firmware, cloud, and app layers.
Provide clear, actionable defect reports with logs, traces, and reproduction steps.
Drive automation coverage, quality metrics, and release readiness reporting.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong programming experience in Java and/or Python (advanced level).
Mandatory experience automating Google Smart Home / Home Devices.
Proven expertise in test automation frameworks (custom or open-source).
Experience testing IoT / connected devices / embedded systems.
Solid understanding of REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, authentication flows.
Experience with Linux-based environments and command-line tools.
