Lady Willingdon HSS’s advanced science lab offers immersive learning
Every child deserves the opportunity to dream big and learn confidently, and this journey begins in the classroom. The Virtusa Foundation is making inroads to transform education with modern, immersive, and tech-enabled learning, one school at a time. Through advanced infrastructure and strong community collaborations, we create inclusive learning ecosystems that empower young minds to explore and innovate.
The Virtusa Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Virtusa Corporation, has undertaken an initiative at Lady Willingdon Higher Secondary School in Chennai to offer future-ready education. In alignment with its commitment to education, environment, and empowerment, the initiative is implemented in partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu's Namma School Namma Ooru Palli program. The partnership focuses on creating advanced science laboratory facilities and improving school infrastructure to support student health and learning outcomes.
Serving students from neighborhoods like Mylapore, Kannagi Nagar, Sathya Nagar, and Perumbakkam, Lady Willingdon Higher Secondary School has been a stepping stone for generations of learners, many of them the first in their families to complete school. And despite limited resources, it’s continued to show up for its students year after year. The structural transformation marks a pivotal moment in the school's journey, reinforcing our belief in empowering future-ready students through purpose-led engineering.
"By enhancing STEM infrastructure, we equip students to explore, innovate, and develop critical problem-solving skills."
Ram Meenakshisundaram, CTO, Virtusa
At the heart of this initiative lies a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade:
These changes aren't just structural; they reflect a philosophy of equity-driven design. From lab counters to safety systems, each detail is built to ensure safety, inclusivity, and usability for students and faculty alike.
Key benefits of the initiative:
"Education is transformative. This initiative strengthens our mission to bridge gaps and empower young minds."
Amit Bajoria, CFO, Virtusa
Lady Willingdon HSS now provides a stronger support system for its students, many of whom are first-generation learners. With access to academic infrastructure and daily nutrition within the same space, students are better positioned to attend regularly, stay engaged, and imagine a brighter future. This transformation reflects a shared commitment to holistic education, showing what's possible when communities unite to create spaces that support every part of a child's growth.
Virtusa is committed to reducing our environmental footprint, achieving a net-zero future, and fostering inclusive communities. This commitment is reflected in our achievements, including (a) Our CDP A-ratings for climate change disclosure for 2021-2023, (b) our EcoVadis Gold medal (2023-2024), and (c) Recent validation of its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
This validation, encompassing Scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions, highlights Virtusa's unwavering commitment to addressing climate change.
At Virtusa, we believe technology can change the world, and we are empowering our employees to do just that. Through the Virtusa Foundation, we connect Virtusans with a spark for doing good with non-government organizations needing support.
We focus on socially relevant causes, including education, empowerment of marginalized communities, rural sports, environmental sustainability, technology incubation with academic institutions, protection of the national heritage, art and culture, and more.
