Solar power brings reliable energy to 179 rural homes inside the Amrabad Tiger Reserve
Virtusa’s clean energy access initiative focuses on delivering dependable, renewable electricity to marginalized households in one of India’s most remote rural forest regions. In FY25, Virtusa funded and supported the implementation of a centralized solar electrification program for 179 rural homes in Nagerkurnool, located deep within the Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Telangana. This work builds on earlier sustainability efforts, including the installation of solar-powered borewells, to expand access to essential services while reducing reliance on fossil fuel-based systems.
Enhancing energy security for underserved rural communities
The solar electrification program provides households with stable, off grid power in a region where conventional grid infrastructure is limited or entirely inaccessible. By introducing decentralized solar energy into rural community infrastructure, the project improves daily living conditions, supports safer household environments, and enables greater access to education, communication, and mobility. These efforts reflect Virtusa’s broader commitment to environmentally responsible and socially inclusive development.
Strengthening long-term resilience through clean, reliable power
The introduction of solar energy has reduced dependence on diesel-based or irregular energy sources, lowered emissions, and improved long-term resilience for tribal and forest edge communities within the reserve. The initiative complements Virtusa’s broader environmental programs in the region, including water body restoration and sanitation improvements. It also supports key UN Sustainable Development Goals: Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
