AXIS Group is an IT services and solutions company, focused on the data analytics and data management component of the IT Information Services spectrum. Their offerings are focused at helping organizations move the needle by unleashing the analytic potential across an enterprise, from top to bottom and throughout the data lifecycle.
AXIS had rotating team of remote consultants that scaled up and down according to resource needs. Manually provisioning, de-provisioning, and managing these IT resources created a lot organizational drag and also introduced data security issues. Virtusa assessed AXIS Group’s application infrastructure and determined that Amazon WorkSpaces was a great fit as a foundational solution to their challenges. Virtusa implemented the solution and AXIS was quickly able to benefit from being able to centrally and securely manage IT assets for its distributed teams while also giving those teams a better device experience.
AXIS Group had a team of remote consultants which was made up of resources specific to their ongoing projects. AXIS IT usually gave each of these consultants an AXIS IT asses (laptop), and provided access via their VPN to the AXIS network. There were numerous consultants across the board, on various projects. This created issues around IT asset management, reclamation, provisioning, and IT operations, but also created a business risk around data / IP leakage. AXIS Group needed to find a way to address these risks, with a solution that would not “break the bank”, while ensuring their requirements were met.
Virtusa conducted a two-day workshop with the customer that consisted of a layered architecture for desktop and applications delivery assessment. Applications were inventoried and Virtusa found that the majority of the applications were online and SAS based.
Virtusa proposed Amazon WorkSpaces as their end-to-end solution. Amazon WorkSpaces is a cloud based virtual desktop offering from AWS, which met all the requirements AXIS Group had. Virtusa created custom code to migrate users and perform post-installation configurations. Virtusa’s deployment tool, Conn3ctOps, was used to deploy and managed users.
Part of this solution also included implementing a portal that automated the creation, deletion, modification of WorkSpaces, along with providing a dashboard for pro-active diagnostics across the environment.

With this solution, AXIS was now able to centrally manage the entire IT systems provisioning / access model, along with ensuring the data and IP on the systems was contained within a controlled environment. In addition, their IT operational burden was reduced, since Amazon WorkSpaces could be centrally managed and supported from a single source.
The portal also proved to be a huge help to IT operations not only for central management purposes, but also because this portal was self-service, which allowed many basic issues to be resolved on the fly by end users themselves.
