    Lack of connectivity with the implanted device and technology to extract data

    The client is a worldwide developer, manufacturer, and marketer of medical devices whose products are used in a range of medical specialties, including interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, peripheral interventions, neuromodulation, neurovascular intervention, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, endoscopy, oncology, urology, and gynecology.

    The client provides Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) therapy to patients with chronic pain. The SCS system consists of an implanted device, which masks pain signals traveling to the patient’s brain. Virtusa came in as a preferred strategic partner for resolving the lack of connectivity with the implanted device prohibited vital usability data. Virtusa leveraged a 10-week blueprinting process to finalize user journey, architecture, POCs, tool decisions, and implementation plan for the most critical success factor in the client’s Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) therapy for patients with chronic pain. Virtusa partnered the client in verification, validation as well as getting FDA approval for the solution.

    Devices must be managed at the physician offices, with both client representatives and patients required to be physically present, requiring coordination between parties and consequent notice and travel time spanning several days

    AI-based cognitive solution for virtual device management

    Virtusa engaged with the client in a 10-week Blueprinting phase to develop a radically new Bluetooth-based, low energy-enabled mHealth app to manage surgically embedded devices with a ubiquitous locked smartphone. The partnership spanned the following stages of development:

    • User Journey: Met with the user community to identify the patient journey and UI mockups
    • Architecture: Created an architecture blueprint and got buy-in from the IT stakeholders
    • POCs: Several POCs were implemented to identify technology feasibility
    • Tool Decision: Created scorecards to enable IT stakeholders. to make tool and technology decisions
    • Implementation Plan: Created Development and QA plan to enable a smooth transition from the planning to the implementation phase
    • The application developed by Virtusa served as a bridge to provide virtual device management with the client’s representatives working remotely from their Center of Excellence.
