Careers : Campus Reach Initiative

As part of the Campus Reach program, Virtusa partners with universities and academic institutions across many initiatives. Improving collaboration between academia and industry is a core area of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. Some of these activities include:

1. The Virtusa Practitioner Series

This is a program in which Virtusans conduct short seminars or K-talks (Knowledge talks) to university students on areas relevant to their university courses, based on the speakers’ fields of specialization.

The topics of the series include the following:
‘Mind Mapping’, ‘Enterprise Integration Architecture’, ‘Professional Software Engineering: The Virtusa Way’, ‘Organizational Structures’, ‘Professional Issues’, ‘FOSS, GNU And Taprobane’, ‘About Virtusa, Expectations Of Virtusa From Interns, Feedback From Virtusa Based On Prior Internships/Experience’, ‘User Interface Training’, ‘Software Development – The Virtusa Way’, ‘IT Career Guidance’ and ‘Gforge/Subversions User Training’.

2. Adding To The Teaching Capacity

The Software Quality Assurance (SQA) practice developed a course structure, prepared handouts and delivered presentations to supplement the SQA modules being offered at universities and academic institutions. The course consisted of four lectures of three hours each on the topics of ‘Software Quality Principles’, ‘Quality Assurance’, ‘Quality Control’ and ‘Quality Management’, followed by three workshops in 'Quality Strategy', 'Test Planning' and 'Test Design'.

3. Virtusa Academic Excellence Award

Virtusa presents the Virtusa Academic Excellence Award to several Sri Lankan students for reaching the top of their respective batches and excelling in their final year projects.

4. Industrial Internship Program

Virtusa provides opportunities to graduates to work at the organization and enjoy the benefits of working in a professional and growth-oriented environment. This opportunity is also extended to undergraduates who join during the placement year of their academic studies.

5. Training Academic Staff

The Campus Reach team organized a training session in Subversion and GForge (key components of an internal source code management system), for representatives of academic institutions, who could thereafter setup and maintain similar environments in their institutions. The team also worked with the trainees to set up servers in their campus environments in order to organize training for the university students.

6. Board Participation

Many Virtusans have served on boards and committees of IT educational institutions, management committees in Sri Lanka. These include the Lanka Software Foundation, ICT sub-committee of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, University Industry Collaboration Board – University of Moratuwa, Advisory Board – Department of Information Technology and Management, Kelaniya University, Software Process Improvement Network and Management Committee – IT Centre, University of Peradeniya.

7. Sponsorships

Virtusa assists various events at universities by way of program sponsorships to develop leadership, planning and organizing skills.
